Our Method

Young at Arts Studios programs reflect and support our belief that strong basic skills are imperative to foster creative exploration and thought. We start by teaching the student to see beyond the obvious, to the elements that form their pictures. This is done through a process of breaking down the subject into simple shapes, lines and spaces. Next basic methods, like use of color, light and shadow; positive and negative space; composition and perspective are applied. Finally these skills are enriched by the students personal creativity and the strength of our highly trained and creative staff.

The Program

Students are started in a program based on his/her age and skill level and interests. Most students start with our Fine Arts Basics. *For students 10 years and older or for more advanced students, placement is determined by a personal portfolio review with the owner.

*Fine Arts Basics (five and up) starts with drawing including pastels, colored pencils and charcoal. Students advance over time to water colors.

*Portfolio Development (15 years and up) Student works with the owner of Young at Art Studio to create portfolio pieces, learn to critic work and choose their work for portfolio review. Most majors excepted, instructor can work with students selected college to prepare them for their chosen major. Some major choices are Illustration,
graphic, fashion, animation, architecture and fine arts. *The above class is scheduled during the times labeled Teen and Adult see studio schedule.
